From Miner’s Tradition to Your Adventure
While visiting his wife’s family in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Ken, owner of The Dough Miner Café, first encountered the pasty, a baked meat and vegetable pie brought by miners from Cornwall, England during the mid-1800s. Pasties were the miners’ meal since they were portable and eaten without utensils. These crimped, half-moon pies took root in the region and are still enjoyed by locals and visitors today.
After moving to the Salt Lake area, he realized the pasty would be the perfect addition to the local dining scene, especially to the “adventure crowd” since the pasty makes a great addition to any outside adventure such as skiing or hiking. It is a great “grab and go” meal that allows you to take a warm and hearty meal with you wherever you may go, just like the miners did.
He also discovered that the pasty had a local history right here in Utah as it was once enjoyed by the miners in the area. Right then and there he decided to bring the pasty back to Utah.
From there the concept for the Dough Miner expanded into some of the best hand-crafted doughnuts in the area as well as real NYC style bagels.
The goal of the Dough Miner Café is to create a unique and eclectic fusion of morning and afternoon food options to fuel all of your adventures, from Fresh Pasties and hand-crafted doughnuts to real NYC style bagel and bagel sandwiches as well as great coffee, all served by a welcoming and upbeat team of brand ambassadors and passionate bakers.
